You have discussed everything with the Surgeon and have finally decided to undergo the procedure. What you need to know before your surgery: you will fill out a pre-operative questionnaire (this will be given to you when you book) you will receive the Client Informed Consent to be signed (mandatory for any surgery) the surgery will take on average 2h a3h and you will be under full anesthesia so you will feel no pain The surgeon will make a horizontal incision and separate the skin from the surrounding tissues (possibly reefing (suturing together) the abdominal muscles) Excess skin and excess fat will be removed Sutures are resorbable and will disappear on their own Sometimes the surgeon will place a drain (to collect wound fluid/blood) these are removed within 24/48 hours after the oepration by the nurse on the doctor's order. You will wake up in the recovery department of our clinic where the nurse will take care of you and let you recover from the operation. For 24 hours you will be lying in a flexed position to minimize pressure and tension on the scar. You may only leave the recovery area when you can drink, urinate, consciousness, breathing and blood pressure must be stable. The doctor will decide when you are ready to go home. On average, this is 4h after your procedure. After that, you may go to your room. We recommend an overnight stay because after surgery you will have difficulty standing upright you will feel traction from your incision which will cause you to walk somewhat hunched over for the first few days. Immediately after your surgery you will wear supportive tights, which you will keep on for 6 weeks and should never come off. Except for changing or washing the dressings of the wounds. At the incision site, you will have an absorbent dressing that will let out some fluid from the liposuction fluid during the first few days. This is perfectly normal. You should also keep in mind that the result will only be visible after several months because you will still have swelling after the operation. The day after your surgery you will be called to ask how you are doing and if everything is okay with you.

You will be given a comprehensive post-operative protocol with very clear instructions regarding medication policy and care. The first months after your surgery your scars will show a reddish color, which will improve after a few months. Then your scar will increasingly take on the color of the skin. After the surgery you will receive a prescription for ointment that will ensure that your scar heals optimally and is as unobtrusive as possible.
