Medical peelings
You do not (unfortunately) have glowing skin overnight. The skin is a living organ that is constantly trying to return to its original state. For the best results it is therefore recommended to repeat the treatment several times, so that the result remains optimal for as long as possible. The best would be to repeat the treatment every 4 months to keep the skin at its best.

What is a medical or chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a procedure that consists of eliciting accelerated skin rejuvenation. In a controlled manner, exfoliating agents (the peels) are used to begin acting on different skin layers. The peel ensures the elimination of the external skin layers (depending on the acidity and introughion time of the peel, you can determine the depth).

To find out which medical peel you need, we recommend first seeing Nurse Karen for a consultation. This is because a medical peel is tailored to a number of personal factors such as skin thickness, what skin type you have and whether the pigment is superficial or deep in the skin.
What is the purpose of a chemical peel?
- Stimulate the production of: collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan, improving the physiological and mechanical properties of these tissues.
- Exfoliation causes the skin to divide faster and brings active substances into the various skin layers.
- Depending on the acidity or PH value of the peel, different depths can be reached in the skin.
- There are different percentages of acidity: only the peels that have a value lower than 1.5 PH belong to the medical peels! These medical peels may therefore only be performed by doctors or under the supervision of a doctor e.g. by a nurse.
How does a medical or chemical peel proceed?
After the preparation, we can start with the peeling. Our skin expert at Sarasin Clinic will cleanse your skin before we start the peeling.
The skin will be red and slightly swollen after the treatment. Keep in mind that for the first few days after treatment:
- Not allowed in the sun (avoid sun/sunbed)
- should not apply makeup to the face
- give your skin time and space to adjust and recover from peeling
What does an exfoliation do in general?
- Purifies and oxygenates the skin, keeping it hydrated and free of impurities
- closes open pores, improves skin texture and increases epidermal thickness
- Addresses the effects of skin aging, softening wrinkles and firming the skin
- makes the skin tone more even
- alleviate and weaken pigment lesions, creating a depigmenting effect
- reducing acne and superficial scars
Does the skin need to be prepared for a medical peel first?
- We strongly recommend that before starting a medical peel, the skin be prepared at least 3 weeks in advance.
- With proper preparation, the peel will be better tolerated during your treatment, your downtime will be less and the result of your peel will be significantly better.
- We never perform peels without preparing the skin first! When you make a reservation for a medical peel, you are required to come for a consultation first and the preparation is also discussed and given with you.
Aftercare for medical peels
- Stop using your own day and night creams. These creams often contain irritants, such as perfumes and acids that can cause inflammatory reactions.
- Do not use skin care with active ingredients, parabens and perfume for 5 days (mineral makeup may be used from day 6)
- Avoid sun, tanning bed, hammam, sauna for 4 weeks. (Skin is more sensitive after peeling and thus more vulnerable to sunlight)
- Do not exercise or swim for 48 hours after treatment
- Use a sunblock
- Do not scratch off skins or scabs, this will prevent scarring
- Hydrate the skin where needed
- No laser depilation of the treated area for 2 months after peeling
- From the first peeling session until two weeks after the last session, we recommend not using peels or scrubs at home
