Why remove a tattoo with lasers?

It is estimated that about 24% of people have a tattoo, 17% of which regret it afterwards. Often people get tattoos in an impulsive mood or at a young age, later finding that the tattoo no longer suits their lifestyle or personality. Perhaps they had their partner's name tattooed at the time and the relationship ended.

What is the treatment involved in removing a tattoo?

Before treatment:

  • 1 month before treatment: do not expose the treatment site to the sun.

During treatment:

  • We start the treatment by cleaning and disinfecting the surface of the skin.
  • The laser is set with a specific wavelength according to the color of the tattoo.
  • The laser beam causes white ash discoloration on the skin, swelling and possible bleeding. This phenomenon is normal and changes to slight swelling, redness and crusting depending on the individual.
  • The skin is cared for afterwards with Flamigel, and the bandage should remain in place for 24 hrs.

Which laser do we use in tattoo removal?

  • We work only with the Pico Laser, the latest in tattoo removal technology.
  • In just a fraction of seconds, short laser pulses are used to remove the ink. Because of the speed of the laser pulses, fewer treatments are required than with traditional laser devices such as the Q Switch Laser.
  • The Pico Laser is suitable for all colors, as well as to remove more stubborn shades such as green and blue.

Aftercare for tattoo removal

The first 24 hours after tattoo removal

  • The treatment site should not be exposed to water and sunlight/sunbed or exposure to UV radiation 24 h after treatment.
  • At home you can cool the treated area, use a cold gel pad (ice-pack) for this purpose. You will receive this after the first treatment to take home.

Afterwards

  • After treatment, apply Flamigel 3 times daily (for 1 week) until the skin has fully recovered.
  • Afterwards, it is important to stay out of the sun as much as possible and wear sunscreen with SPF 50 protection factor.
  • Try to avoid rubbing with clothing or fabrics for the first few weeks.
  • You may shower, but be careful when drying off.
  • Avoid soaps, lotions, perfumes and makeup on the treated area.
  • No use of sauna or pool/jacuzzi for at least 3 weeks.
  • Do not scratch the skin or pull the sheets.
  • Drinking plenty of water after treatment is recommended (this will promote elimination of tattoo particles).
  • Smoking has a negative effect on recovery

Opgelet bij het verwijderen permanente make up op de lippen kan het zijn dat je TIJDELIJK een grijze verkleuring krijgt. Dit is het gevolg van witte pigmenten die bij de rode pigmenten werden gevoegd om de juiste lipkleur te verkrijgen.

Vanaf 3 dagen na je behandeling mag je dit wel camoufleren. Je zal dus extra sessies nodig hebben om deze grijze kleur te verwijderen. In 50% van de gevallen komt er een grijze verkleuring tevoorschijn die we pas in de volgende sessie kunnen verwijderen. Hou hiermee rekening bij het boeken van jouw afspraak en je sociale activiteiten na je behandeling.

Is a tattoo or SPMU removal painful?

To say that a tattoo / SPMU removal is not painful would not be correct. Fortunately, the treatment does not take long, you can compare it as if someone shoots a rubber band against your skin. After treatment, you have to take care of the wound like a burn.

On average, how many tattoo removal sessions do you need?

It takes an average of 2 sessions to laser away permanent makeup, to laser away tattoos it takes an average of 4 - 6 sessions. This is an average and so may be less or more. How many treatments you need to remove your tattoo / SPMU depends on the size, depth, ink colors and skin tone.

When will you see results from your tattoo removal?

How long the treatment takes depends on your tattoo / SPMU. Keep in mind that multiple treatments are required, with 8 weeks of rest each time between treatments. You will see the tattoo fade more each time and eventually disappear. Specifically, you will have results after each session, the tattoo / SPMU will become lighter and lighter.

Every how many weeks should I come back for a session?

On average, we leave 8 weeks between each session. That way, we are pretty sure that the skin has already recovered sufficiently before we schedule another session.

What does a tattoo/SPMU removal session cost?

When can I wear makeup again after PMU removal?

This depends on the healing process, when the scabs are gone. For example, when you no longer have scabs after 3-4 days, you can wear makeup again.

Can I exercise after tattoo/PMU removal?

Do not exercise for the first 2-3 days after a tattoo / PMU removal.

Why do my eyebrows look red after a PMU removal session with the tattoo laser?

First, the eyebrows look red because they have just been lasered, this will disappear within 3 days on average. If after 3 days there is still a soft salmon pink shine in the skin then this indicates residual pigment from your old eyebrow treatment. How does this come about? Well, the brown color of your SPMU was built up from: black, red, yellow. The red color always stays in the skin the longest and the standard laser wavelength to remove the brown color of your old pmu is 1064, this wavelength only works on black. So if your brown SPMU color contained a lot of red pigment then it will now show up because all the black pigment is gone. The red color can only be removed with a different wavelength. This will then be done in another session because we are not allowed to combine these sessions due to too much risk of scarring the skin.

From when can I have my tattoo / pmu lasered away if I am not satisfied with the result?

If you are not satisfied with your new tattoo or PMU, you may only have it lasered away after 4 to 6 months

When can I have another tattoo / pmu after having old ones lasered away?

You may not do this until after 8 weeks.
