The Face Slimming treatment or Masseter Slimming (jawline slimming) is a popular treatment at Sarasin Clinic. For a beautiful, feminine face shape, such as a V-shaped face or a heart-shaped face, there should be a curve from the upper cheeks to the lower third of the face, rather than a square or round shape.

How does a Face Slimming treatment proceed?

2 small injections are given into the chewing muscle of the face. This will cause the muscle to relax and shrink after a few days, creating a slimmed down lower jaw that is more oval and less square.
This gives you more "the V shape" in your face.

Bruxism or teeth grinding

  • Sometimes masseter hypertrophy (=enlargement of the cheek muscles) is caused by bruxism or teeth grinding. This is the involuntary or habitual grinding of the teeth, usually during the night.
  • This causes the cheek jaw muscles to enlarge. If left untreated, this will lead to TMJ dysfunction (= jaw head pain) and orofacial pain. This is pain at the level of the teeth/jaws and temples.

When will you see the results with Face Slimming and how long will it last?

  • About 2 weeks after treatment, you will see that your lower jaw has really narrowed.
  • This result will last for about 3 to 4 months. After that, it is best to come back for another injection.

How do muscle relaxants or wrinkle injections work?

Muscle relaxant injections are injected into the facial muscles with a fine needle. This blocks the message from the nerve to the muscle. This will reduce the amount of contraction of that muscle and the lines start to become less visible, or even disappear completely.

How long does the effect of muscle relaxants or wrinkle injections last?

After 2-8 days, wrinkles begin to diminish. After 4 weeks, the maximum effect is achieved. From 6-8 weeks, the result is maintained. After 8 weeks, the effect begins to slowly diminish. After 12 weeks the effect is about 50% less, after 4 months the effect decreases by 80%. Most patients opt for a repeat treatment around 3-4 months, but this varies from patient to patient. Men, athletes and those who are more muscular may tend to need larger doses and more frequent doses.

Are muscle relaxants (btx) safe?

Wrinkle injections are a medical treatment prescribed and performed by a physician that carries risks. Generally, these procedures are considered low risk for complications.

What risks and side effects may occur with muscle relaxants (btx)?

Are muscle relaxants (btx) painful?

The pain is minimal. You will feel a small prick. When the product is injected, there may be a stinging sensation that will disappear within seconds. The procedure itself takes about 5 minutes, but at your appointment you will need to take pictures and sign a consent form and the treated area will be disinfected. You will therefore spend an average of 30 min in our clinic.

What is the aftercare after treatment with muscle relaxants?

our doctor may advise you to frown or use other facial expressions several times a day for the first few days avoid putting pressure on the treated area for 24-48 hours after treatment DO NOT massage the injection area!!! At least 24 hours after treatment do not apply makeup for 6-8 hours after treatment (until the next morning is even better).

Follow-up and treatment duration of muscle relaxants

After your initial treatment, you will generally be invited for a follow-up appointment about 2 weeks after your initial treatment. This allows the doctor to review your results. To maintain your results it is recommended that you have regular treatments, you can discuss this with your doctor at the time of your treatment.

Can lips be treated with Botox?

Yes, for cosmetic applications, Botox can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, as well as lip wrinkles.

How does botox work in the lips?

A muscle relaxant/Botox is injected with a very small needle at specific therapeutic sites. It has the desired effect by blocking the impulses that nerves in the face need to constrict.

What is the active ingredient of Botox in the lips?

Botulinum toxin, the active ingredient in Botox, preserves some of the muscle tissue. When Botox is administered topically, it blocks the signal that muscles contract by attaching to their receptors.

Are face slimming treatments painful?

Generally, patients report minimal to no pain during treatment. In the case of Lipolysis, a local anesthetic cream may be applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Because the MFFace treatment is non-invasive, it is generally painless with little to no discomfort.

Are there any side effects of face slimming treatments?

When muscle relaxants were injected, Slight swelling, redness and bruising at the injection site are common side effects, but they often disappear within a few days.
