Lipofilling body

Lipofilling or fat tissue grafting is a surgical technique that uses your own fat tissue. Subcutaneous fat tissue is removed with liposuction. This fat is purified and injected elsewhere in the body.

A well-known example of lipofilling is the: Brazilian Butt Lift aka Kardashian curve. Check here also lipofilling for the face and lipofilling for the lips.

Lipofilling body treatment

  • Lipofilling usually takes place under local anesthesia in the day clinic. You can go home the same day.
  • Just before surgery, the plastic surgeon marks out the area on your body that he will correct and the area where he will remove the fat. Lipofilling involves removing subcutaneous fat tissue from the abdomen, hips, thighs or other areas according to the availability of the fat and your wishes.
  • This is done with a fine cannula and a small incision in a subtle place. Adipose tissue contains all kinds of impurities, therefore the adipose tissue is centrifuged to make it pure.
  • The purified fat tissue can now be injected with the cannula into the buttocks and/or hips or area of your choice. The fat is injected layer by layer. This is called structural fat tissue grafting.
  • Usually more fat is injected than necessary and thus over-corrected. This is because some of the fat that is injected spontaneously digests. Therefore, post-filling is sometimes required to compensate for the digested fat.

Benefits lipofilling body

  • Lipofilling is a minimally invasive technique. The main advantage is that no scars are placed.
  • Through small puncture holes, subcutaneous fat tissue is removed with liposuction.
  • This fat is purified and then re-injected through a small puncture hole.
  • Your own tissue is used so there is (almost) no chance of a rejection reaction.
  • The procedure can also be repeated.
  • The disadvantage is that some of the injected fatty tissue always disappears.

Recovery and aftercare for lipofilling body

  • A plaster is placed over the wounds after surgery, which you can use to shower again after two days. The plasters will not come off in the shower. However, we do not recommend taking a bath, as the plasters may come off. After seven to ten days, the plasters are removed.
  • You will wear the provided clothing (lipo pantyhose) over the area where the fat was removed for several weeks. Wear this special clothing at night as well as during the day for optimal results.
  • For several weeks after surgery, you may experience bruising, swollen skin. After about two to six weeks, the bruising and swelling will go away on their own.
  • For the first three to six weeks, it is important to rest a lot. Sports can resume after six weeks.

Result of lipofilling

  • The immediate effect of treatment always decreases slightly over the course of three to six weeks.
  • After three to six months, the final result is achieved. If there is a lot of fat digestion or asymmetry, a correction may be made to replenish.
  • A second treatment may eventually be needed to obtain even better results.

Lipofilling body complications & risks

As with any surgical treatment, complications can occur. Fortunately, serious complications are rare. Post-operative bleeding or wound infection are the most common complications.

Always contact the plastic surgeon when in doubt.

Sometimes residual swelling and hardening may be present that takes weeks or sometimes months to disappear.

Sensation in the skin of the treated area and near the scars is often reduced or gone. This is temporary and recovers after a few months.
