What does lower eyelid surgery cost?
The cost of your lower eyelid surgery is determined by the type of anesthesia you choose to have the procedure performed. A local anesthesia is cheaper; a general anesthesia involves some additional costs for anesthesia.
What determines the cost of lower eyelid surgery?
In the majority of cases, patients opt for eyelid surgery under local anesthesia. This has the advantage that the anesthesia itself is less invasive, which many people find more comfortable. In addition, eyelid surgery is a relatively simple procedure, so general anesthesia is often unnecessary.
If for some reason a general or full anesthesia is indicated, there will be a cost for the anesthesia. Specifically, €300 will be added to the total cost of your chosen treatment.

Additional charges for general anesthesia for lower eyelid surgery
Although the majority of patients opt for an eyelid correction procedure at our Sarasin Clinic under local anesthesia, in some cases it is still desirable to opt for full sedation. This is sometimes popularly called "under anesthesia. In a nutshell, this means that you are put completely to sleep or under anesthesia. This incurs additional costs for the presence and work of an anesthesiologist. Specifically, this adds €300 to the total amount of your procedure.
However, for a relatively minor procedure such as eyelid surgery, this is often not necessary at all. Any discomfort and pain are not too bad. In fact, many patients find it nicer to undergo the procedure under local anesthesia.
Costs reimbursed by your health insurance fund
In some cases, you can apply to your mutual insurance company or health insurance fund for reimbursement for surgery on your eyelids. However, there are some specific conditions attached to this:
- The attending physician must be of the opinion that you are physically bothered by your eyelids.
- Your health insurance company or mutual insurance company must have the same opinion as the doctor.
Be sure to discuss your options with your insurance company beforehand, or book a first consultation (€50) with our plastic surgeon for a professional opinion.
