How do muscle relaxants or wrinkle injections work?

Muscle relaxant injections are injected into the facial muscles with a fine needle. This blocks the message from the nerve to the muscle. This will reduce the amount of contraction of that muscle and the lines start to become less visible, or even disappear completely.

How long does the effect of muscle relaxants or wrinkle injections last?

After 2-8 days, wrinkles begin to diminish. After 4 weeks, the maximum effect is achieved. From 6-8 weeks, the result is maintained. After 8 weeks, the effect begins to slowly diminish. After 12 weeks the effect is about 50% less, after 4 months the effect decreases by 80%. Most patients opt for a repeat treatment around 3-4 months, but this varies from patient to patient. Men, athletes and those who are more muscular may tend to need larger doses and more frequent doses.
