What is a thread lift treatment?

Threadlift or Threadlift is a treatment in which the face is lifted by medical wires. We can use this to rejuvenate your appearance slightly, so to speak. This cosmetic procedure is beginning to gain more and more popularity because it is not a major procedure and is safer than the classic facelift.

Want to get rid of your drooping hamster jaws or want a tighter brow line? With a thread lift, you can opt for a full "Facelift" (non-surgical) or to improve certain areas of the face. This will be discussed with the doctor in advance, as will how many wires will be used and what type of wires the doctor will use.

What happens to the skin as we age?

  • After age 25, changes slowly begin to appear in the skin. These changes become visible only between the ages of 35 and 40. Your skin becomes saggy, begins to droop and loses its elasticity. From this time, the first lines become visible.
  • Aging causes loss of facial fat, especially around the cheeks, eyes, jowls and neck. The elastic fibers in the skin become thinner, reducing the elasticity of the face. These two aging processes result in wrinkles and sagging skin.

Rejuvenate and lift your radiance without cutting

  • When wires are placed under the skin, they tighten loose or sagging skin in various parts of the face or body and lift the effects of gravity and aging.
  • The thread lift restores the loss of shape in the face and neck.
  • Thanks to the active ingredients in these threads, the thread lift not only provides a lifting effect, but also improves the quality of your skin.

What threads are available?

All these types of threads are then also broken down by shape:

1. Mono wires

  • Smooth without barbs.
  • Skin tightening improves after collagen begins to form around the threads. Treatment areas include: neck, forehead and under the eyes.
  • About 10-30 mono wires are used for each treatment area.

2. Tooth threads

  • Have barbs that hook onto the skin to provide support and help lift sagging skin.
  • Collagen forms around the threads and their barbs.
  • Dental wires are the best choice for jawline lifting and slimming.

3. Screw threads

  • Have one or two entangled threads around the needle, and they provide good volume restoration of any sagging areas of skin.
  • The production of collagen around the threads and barbs helps restore volume and improve skin texture and elasticity, resulting in a natural aesthetic result.
  • Multi thread has a stronger effect and is used for general facelifting.

1. PDO - threads

What are PDO - threads?

  • PDO or polydioxanone is a colorless, biodegradable polymer. It is made from monofilament fiber consisting of one or two twisted filaments that dissolve in the tissue over time. So your own body breaks it down! It is broken down by hydrolysis (water).
  • PDO sutures have been used in surgery for more than 30 years.

What are PDO threads for?

  • To accentuate contours of the face
  • Treating wrinkles
  • Improve skin quality
  • Reduce pores
  • Counteract skin sagging

It is an effective treatment performed with minimal downtime.

Depending on the size of the PDO wire used, the biomaterial is fully absorbed into the tissue within 6 months. This is exactly the reaction we want to see from aesthetic PDO wires, as collagen builds up around the wire and creates a lifting effect. This is caused by the body starting to produce fibroblasts to create more collagen in the target area.

The fibroblasts of the subcutaneous tissue are able to remodel the cells and increase protein synthesis, providing skin firming.

How long does the effect of PDO threads last?

PDO threads last up to 6 months in the skin.

2. PLA wires

What are PLA wires?

They are also made from a polymer but derived from lactic acid.

What are PLA wires for?

They generate collagen longer than PDO threads. So these type of threads are going to have longer effect than the classic PDO threads.

How long does the effect of PLA threads last?

PLA wires last about 12 months in the skin.

3. PCA wires

What are PCA wires?

PCA threads are the newest threads and are bioabsorbable, monofilament suspension threads of synthetic origin (caprolactone).

What are PCA wires used for?

PCA threads regenerate collagen over a longer period of time than PDO and PLA threads.

They leave a collagen structure that supports the skin, tightens it and prevents further aging.

How long does the effect of PCA threads last?

PCA wires can last 12-15 months in the tissue.

The longer the thread lasts, the more collagen is built up, and the better and longer-lasting the end result.

PCA threads provide some lifting and are suitable for clients who need minor to moderate lifting.

What type of wire is best to use?

PDO monofilament threads are not suitable for orphan tissue lifting because they are placed superficially, are completely smooth and have no barbs. PDO threads do have a regenerative effect that can visibly improve the appearance of the skin but they do not provide tissue lifting.

For a great lift with improved facial tightening and rejuvenation, barbed wires should be used. Collagen is then formed around the wires and hooks, enhancing the effect. The hooks should be long enough to hook onto the skin tissue and maintain the required lift. If they are too long, they are too flexible and cannot lift the skin tissue. On the other hand, if the barbs are too short, they cannot initially hook onto the skin tissue.

  • PDO threads are better for skin tissue repositioning and revitalization, but do not provide lift; therefore, they are more suitable for younger clients.
  • PLA threads provide some lifting, but are only suitable for clients who need moderate lifting.
  • PCA threads provide some lifting and are suitable for clients who need minor to moderate lifting.

Before the doctor decides which type of wire to use, they will first look at the indications of the treatment and what they want to achieve.

How does a thread lift treatment proceed?

  1. Consultation to check your suitability for treatment and to take pre-photos.
  2. The area to be treated is cleaned, disinfected and marked with a sterile marker.
  3. The doctor begins by numbing the area to be treated sufficiently locally before the procedure. This is similar to a numbing prick at the dentist.
  4. Using a thin injection needle or cannula, the wires are inserted into the subcutaneous skin. This also makes them invisible to the naked eye after the procedure. With Mono wires, the wires are inserted with a twist and then twisted twice when the wire is in the skin.
  5. After the wires are inserted, the insertion method is removed. The skin is lifted in the desired direction when the wire is removed. This feels like a slight pressure or tension. After this, they attach and stimulate the skin to produce collagen. The skin is instantly lifted and your wrinkles and lines soften significantly.
  6. After the procedure, the doctor checks for symmetry.
  7. Ice compresses can be used to reduce swelling and bruising. You can apply Arnica cream to the treatment area afterwards.
  8. It is important not to make any overly expressive facial movements for several weeks after treatment.
  9. After 4 weeks, you will return for a check-up with doctor.

What results can you expect from a thread lift?

A thread lift allows for the production of new collagen. The primary effect is achieved by the presence of strong and elastic threads in the tissues. The result is noticeable after 1-2 weeks.

The results are:

  • Improved complexion
  • The laxity of the skin is improved
  • The skin becomes more elastic and youthful
  • Retroughion of wrinkles
  • Refinement of pores
  • Decrease in the volume of subcutaneous fat
  • Lifting of the skin

The final result lasts an average of 6-24 months, depending on the client's age, skin laxity and metabolism.

As described above, the different threads have different shelf lives. Everything is discussed in advance with your doctor before we proceed with the treatment. It is the doctor who will decide with you which type of thread, technique is appropriate for your needs / indication.

Aftercare thread lift

  • After the treatment, you will be allowed to go home immediately and you can go to work right away. It is perfectly normal for your skin to be red, swollen and bruised for the first two hours.

  • Massaging the treated area for the first 48 hours is not recommended unless specifically directed by the doctor.
